I sometimes find valuable information in blogs. I hope to leave some of my valuable information in a blog in the hope that someone else finds it valuable (or if I have to do it again).

I almost feel like it is a duty. I am receiving information from a large pool and I enjoy adding to it.

I also view a blog as a communication tool, so if I want to publicize a thought, belief, revelation, etc., I have a publishing platform with which I can make it so.Mike Cherim

I gave this a little more thought last night, Mike, and what a marvelous idea it is. Prior to the internet, there were thousands of aspiring writers, teachers or storytellers who never received a fraction of the exposure that you can generate through your blog. What a great idea.

I think the underlying reason is just that we like to write.

Yep. That's my number one!

I agree with all those points, Mike, and I certainly agree that it improves search engine indexing. But for many of us, I think the underlying reason is just that we like to write. Thanks for the comments.

My top reason is I like to write. I also like to share what I know which helps me learn more. Moreover, sometimes I get comments which enlighten me even more. I also view a blog as a communication tool, so if I want to publicize a thought, belief, revelation, etc., I have a publishing platform with which I can make it so. The last reason is business-related in that I feel a blog broadens my reach --- either directly to readers, or via indexing to search spiders -- which can make me "known" and if known, then I can be called upon to do work, etc.
