One Photo a Day: January 16, 2007

01016007_large.jpgWe had managed to avoid winter’s freezing blast until this week, which is unusual in Michigan. Yesterday the freezing rain came, and the temperatures dropped into the teens. As you can see from the photo, there is a tremendous amount of ice on everything, including the branches of this bush.

Although it makes for a pretty photo, it really is an ugly scene here as many trees are down and thousands of homes are without power. It’s the price we pay to live in Michigan.

You’re lucky you didn’t lose power. Ice can be heavy and really play havoc on power lines.

We did lose power for about 12 hours, Mike. I scrambled to get the generator filled with gas and running, and powered up the house. Sometimes I take my camera along on these walks and try to capture what the day was like on my morning stroll. On January 16, 2007 it was dangerously icey, but it sure made for a great photo! […]
